WHO/ My name is Samuel Kern. I am 18 years old and live in Mainz. I am half French, half German, because my mother was born and raised in Paris (France). I was visiting the "Frauenlob-Gymnasium" with the advanced courses Music, Biology and German and made my A-Levels in March 2018. Outside school I make a lot of music. With seven years I started playing trumpet, with fifteen years I learned playing the piano by myself and I always take the chance to make music. Besides the music I play tennis since 12 years and I love to travel.
WHY/ I want to make a voluntary year in Israel?
First I wanted to go to new-zeeland...like everybody. But then my father made the joke, that I could go Israel. I was thinking about it and a few weeks later the joke became a fantastic idea. So I started making researches and quickly found the website of the Red Cross. But that does not answer the question , why I want to make a voluntary year in Israel.
I am jewish and in my childhood we used to live the jewish tradition very liberal. But I always thought, that the jewish religion would be much intensive elsewhere. In Mainz sadly the Jewish community is not very big and especially the youth does not really exist. For me it was difficult to find a real connection to it but I always wanted to. So where if not in Israel?
I am very interested in medicine. My grand-father was a very good doctor in France and always a role model to me. My child doctor was very enthusiastic and I was one of the awkward child, who loved to go to the doctor. I ever have been a social person. My friends call it the "helper-syndrome". Wherever somebody needs help, I want to help. So medicine seems to be logical. And in my internship in a hospital I found out, that it is not just logical, I really like it.
I love to travel. Especially international. I made travels trough Europe, to Rwanda and to America. Different cultures, different traditions, different habits, Difference. Seeing the world shows you, that you are not the middle of the earth. It shows you, that there is much more than what you learned in your childhood and in school. In Israel are the three biggest monotheistic religion. Cultural diversity is normal in here. So I am exited, what I can learn.
In summary I want to get known to my religion, I want to learn more about medicine, I want to help and I want to gain experiences for my life.
So please support me doing this.
