Level Up

Shalom,

I just want to inform about the latest update at my work.

Sadly, as you know, a child died a month ago in our department and their is really nothing positive about it, but. Everybody was running around and screaming things in Hebrew. It does not happen a lot in our department. These cases normally are in the intensive unit for children, the problem was, that we didn't knew, that this child was in high danger. So all happened from one second to the other. I was just cleaning some beds, came out the room and was in middle of the situation, confronted by a lot of things. I decided to just stand next to the door and be calm. I was taking care about the family and tried to be helpful. I also asked to get in the room, because it really interested me, what was happening, but I was not allowed to, because the room was already to full. With the time some nurses started to open the door and shouted some things in Hebrew. Everybody around me was reacting so stayed more concentrated and the next time the door opened I reacted. Few times they wanted me to run to the ICU to get some instruments they needed. After that, the situation was not over, it was time for dinner for everybody. So I handled to give out food in a different way we usual do and I always tried not to get in the way of the emergency. After 3 hours everything was over and my shift was finished. Because of all the trouble I decided to stay longer to help out with the cleaning part and everything. Mirjam was so kind to stay with me. Then I went home.

So why am I telling this to you? I talked to my coordinator and my headnurse about it and both of them said, that it is not unnoticed, how I handled the situation.

I do not want to show me in a extraordinary light, they just said, that they wouldn't expect such a behavior form a volunteer. So they decided to let me do more.

Now I am allowed to also work in the intensive care unit for children and to visit the preterm birth station. My Headnurse also wants me to get me more often into surgeries.

I will let you know, how this is going to be and what more experiences I will get!

Lehitraot,

SK
