Shalom,
After we made our last tours through Tel Aviv and celebrated the "New Year" ( It is difficult going to clubs, when you are under 21), we went back to Haifa. It was the first time I had the feeling of "going home". The difference of going home to his mothers house and going home to your colocation is, that at my mothers house, the fridge is full, the bed is ready and the coffee is already on the table, next to your mother who can't wait to hear your story. In the colocation, their was less food , because somebody "Unknown"...ate it, the beds weren't ready and nobody was their waiting for you. So it is a different feeling of going home, but although it is different, it was liberating falling in his own bed. For me living here is an empirically example "You know what you had, the you lost it". I did not lost my home, but it is not near by me and that is a kind of temporary losing. After I had been in Rwanda I really experienced how luxury our material belongings are, now I experience how important our "emotional home" can be. I really start to miss my mum, my dad, my best friends, but not in a bad. I learn to appreciate how important they are to me and what they are giving me. Do not misunderstand me, I always knew how luckily I am to have a safe home, good friends and a healthy family...in the end I just want to say, that I am happy to have everything I need at home in Germany and I miss it and them, but I am also very happy to be here and to experience everything. It is a good kind of homesickness.
Back to what I have done.
We came back it Tuesday evening and on Wednesday we had ulna again. Ulpan is the name of our Hebrew lessons. We are making big progresses, because Ditza, our teacher, makes a really good job. It is funny to see that the french volunteers are doing everything to verify the cliché, that French people can and will not speak englisch. We went to the supermarket again, but it do not take as much time as before, because with time we know what to buy and where.
Thursday we had "Ulpan" again and in the evening we spontaneously had a party in our home. Nearly every Volunteer from Haifa and a few others came. It was late and with the time and enough alcohol some germans thought, that they are able to speak good French. The dialogues had been very funny at this evening. In the end, it was a good end of the week...yes we only had two days of lesson, because on Friday and Saturday is Shabbat and its like the Saturday and Sunday in Germany..no school... It is still confusing, that we are living "one day before you". Your Thursday is our Friday and your Sunday is our Monday....I still have to get used to this.
On Friday we visited "our" city a little bit. We went to downtown, drank coffee, made photos, enjoyed the sun and I went finally to a hair stylist. Spontaneously we decided, that we will go with the other volunteers to Nazareth the next day.
So the next day we went to Nazareth 😉. It was a beautiful town and very historic. We have been to few churches, ate great Falafel and visited the cheap market in the old city. The basilica of Annunciation was impressive. It is the church where angel Gabriel told Virgin Mary, that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus. I am not a Christian, but also for me it was an amazing feeling being at a historical and important place like this. After we walked 15 km,...again...In Tel Aviv I walked 90 km in 5 days..., we went back, watched "Bundesliga", I am so glad, that Luca has Sky Go, and in the evening I went climbing in a boulder hall.
Today is Sunday and after Ulpan I just decided to nothing for a day.
Tomorrow I will visited a friend of my father, we know from Mainz. She lives in Jerusalem and let me stay in her house during Yom Kippur. I want really to fast on Yom Kippur, so I won't eat a thing, won't drink a thing and I won't turn on my phone. So do not get worried, if I do not answer for 25 hours. I never fast like this before and I am excited how it will be. I also want to go the wailing wall on Yom Kippur....
I let you know what I experienced!
Lehitraot,
SK
