Shalom,
After the big journey to Jerusalem we decided to make some little travels. 2 long days we had to spent in our Hebrew lessons and then again...vacations. September in Israel is like May in Germany. Every weekend you have other vacations. At the beginning of my Jerusalem trip had been Yom Kippur. At the end of my Jerusalem trip the Israelis celebrated the beginning of Sukkot, also know as the Feast of Tabernacles. Now, a weekend later, we celebrate the end of Sukkot. I promise next month I will finally work!
On Thursday, after lesson we took the train to Acre/ Akko. This is a city not far away from Haifa, with a big harbor. From Tuesday to Thursday they had been a theater festival, so we decided to get their. What I saw from Akko is very beautiful. The little old city, surrounded by a wall with a harbor is pretty nice, but everywhere you smell fish...you get used to it...Because of the festival I mentioned, the streets had been full of peoples. I felt like in the middle of a fanfare, but it was really nice. Everywhere you saw little "shops" with delicious food. (We also tried some). And in every street had been little stages for the artists. We saw a women who made art pieces with fire, "Expression Dance" (I do not know the right translation), acrobatic art pieces, and, what was really nice to see, a musician quartet. Double bass, guitar, Saxophone and a tap dancer. She danced for an half and hour and it was nice to see. However she managed to smile the whole time. I think if I would tap dance for that long, I would die after that...We got know to two German volunteers, who are volunteering in Naharija, near Haifa. After that we went home and feel asleep 💤.
The next day we wanted to go to Sea Genezareth/ Sea of Tiberias. The bible says, that this is the sea where Jesus walked over water. We had big plans there but........... I start from the beginning.
Early in the morning we took the bus to Tiberias. It took a hour and then we arrived there. My first thought was "Warm". Because of Tiberias is in a valley, their had been ten degrees warmer then in Haifa. So 40 degrees. Our plan was to find a place at the beach with sand, where we can sleep. Right, we wanted to sleep at the beach, go swimming at night and the next day we planed to hike up the mount Arbel. It sounded like a really good plan. We took food like noddle salat, Peta with Humus, Fruits etc. with us, we had things to sleep In. We thought at everything expect of the possibility that the beaches in Tiberias are awful. I never saw dirty beaches like this. The sea was green and dirty too. Everywhere had been plastic bottle etc. They were no sand beaches. Just stones. We walked 5 hours to Tiberias, visited an old grave and finally ended in a big mall. After a short discussion we said, that we will take the next bus home. It was sad, but they had been no really good reason for staying there. Sleeping at a dirty beach with lot of mosquitos, on stones with 40 degrees was not really attractive to us. So we went home and spent the evening doing nothing, what was quiet refreshing too.
Everything in Israel went good so far, so I think this was our experience which showed us, that not really everything works like you planed it to be.
So yesterday I spent the whole day on my couch and in the evening I went climbing/ boulder with some friends. And today we (Jana, Kathy, Mirjam, Antonia, Hjördes, Emilia, Luca and I) made a hike tour through the Carmel national park for 4 hours, which was surprisingly good!
So in the end I spent my last vacations calm, which is not a bad thing! I am looking forward a little bit of routine, because all the traveling is beautiful, but stressful too.
Next week we will have our Hebrew lessons, but we will also have a course in nursing skills as an introduction to our work. In the next blog, I think I will write in a week, I will tell you what we learned!
Until then...
Lehitraot,
SK
