After I talked one year about what I want to do and what I expect from Israel, I am finally here.
But before I could fall asleep in Haifa, I had to go a long way.
The Journey started on Monday, the 27th, (12:00), at home, where I played one last time on my piano. That was one of the hardest "good-byes". I got to the FRAport where I checked In. I gave my suitcase out of my responsibility and changed some euros into shekels. Surprisingly my uncle showed up and we (my uncle, my stepfather, my mother and me) drank one last coffee together. During my uncle and my stepfather talked about some engineer things, my mother hold my hand the whole time and begged me to call her regularly. Typical mother...
Well then was the moment to really say goodbye (14:00). With a few tears and not really realizing, that I will be away for one year, I went through the security check. After they thought, that my music box was kind of a bomb, they let me pass. I took the plane to Paris where I had to wait 8 hours.....but luckily, in the middle of the airport, there was a piano, so I had something to do for the next hours. With the time two other volunteers arrived at the airport, because they had randomly chosen the same flight. After Eating, playing cards, watching Netflix and waiting, we finally got into the plane (23:00).
The flight (5 hours) was nice. Nothing special happened, besides that I played soduko with a rabbi. We landed and went to the passport control. Mentally I was preparing for a hard examination in which I had to answer several questions...but the reality was a little bit different. They asked, which flight I took and then they let me pass. Unfortunately they "forgot" to write down our visa in our passport....Well I think they honestly, just had been lazy. After a few discussions with a lot of airport personal, we finally received our visa, et voila: We are legally in Israel.
We met other volunteers at the airport and together we took the train to Haifa (8:30). -There is a little time difference of one hour to Germany.-We all looked like junkies and were really tired. As we arrived in Haifa, some people had the really great idea to walk to the hostel....with a broken case....we had about 30 degrees....
It was an horrible idea. We must have looked so pained, that a nice guy from the military helped us with our baggage. After a half an hour of walking, we decided to take the bus. And finally: we arrived at the hostel ( 10:00). But It was ten o'clock, so we had to wait five hours to check in. In summary I can say, that I chose a really bad flight.
In this time, we decided to go to market and made first experiences in "What the hell are they talking about" .We understood nothing, but somehow we managed to buy food and something to drink. And we bought humus..... That was very important to me.
As time goes by many volunteers arrived and we met some people from Teterow and a lot of new people. The rest of the day we spend talking to known and unknown person. I share my room with one German and four French people, so I can exercise my French....yes...I wanted to go to Israel, because I want to exercise my French.....Well in the night we went to the beach. It was beautiful and the water was still so warm. That was the first moment I realized, that I finally arrived in Israel.
With a good feeling and excited about what will happen the next days, I went to bed.
Best regards,
SK
